I love you so matcha Event No. 1!!
Our kickoff event was held on Friday, November 24th, 2017, and we visited two delicious spots in downtown and Gastown! The first stop was Heritage Asian Eatery (1108 West Pender St.). This counter-service restaurant serves a variety of baos, rice bowls, and other side dishes that combine unique ingredients to produce delicious flavours! As seen above, a few of the dishes we tried included the Five Spice Chicken Wings ($6), the Shiitake Rice Bowl w/ extra egg ($12+$2), the Chicken Rice Bowl ($11), and the Golden Mantou ($6). I personally really liked the chicken wings because they had a crispy outer coating and were not too salty. The rice bowls are quite filling and provide a good mix of protein, carbs, and veggies into a single dish. My favorite dish was the Golden Mantou, which are deep fried buns served with matcha condensed milk.
The next stop on our list was Cacao 70 Dip Shop in Gastown (433 Abbott St). When you walk into the small shop, the aroma of chocolate will fill your lungs and it will be impossible for you to leave without getting a dipped cone or waffle! Cacao 70 is a chain of dessert shops and restaurants originally from Montreal, Canada. At this location, you can choose a from a variety of waffle combos, or get a vanilla cone or waffle dipped in chocolate. The chocolate flavours include: dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white chocolate, earl grey chocolate, matcha chocolate, chai chocolate, and many more!
I went for the vanilla cone dipped in matcha chocolate ($4.75), and it was amazing! I would highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a quick dessert after a dinner in Gastown. Overall, I had a great time with my mini-club at our first event! Looking forward to many more matcha adventures in the coming months! 🙂
